Vijay Bhalla from Poanta Sahib Arrested for mistreating girls

The Sirmaur police arrested Vijay Bhalla on the charges of beating and sexually harassing two minor age sisters who were living in his house as a maid. The Sirmaur district police presented the accused in a local court and sent back to police custody for next two days.

Yesterday, the Bhalla’s wife is also arrested by the Sirmaur police who is absconding.

Vijay Bhalla and his wife is booked under Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act, Section 321 of the IPC, and Section 12 of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act 2012, said SP Sirmaur Soumya Sambasivan

The whole case of mistreating two of the twin sister came to light this week when one of the sister was taken to the hospital in dehradun for the treatment after allegedly beaten by Bhalla’s wife caught the attention of a local NGO and they further informed to a NGO of Shimla named as Umang Foundation.

After digging a little about the family of the victim girls, Human Rights activists and chairman, Umang Foundation, Ajai Srivastava discover that family of the victim girl live at a nearby village and without wasting no seconds they informed complete situation of her daughter at the hospital.

The case was registered against the offending family by the Sirmour police after that complaint made by the twin sister father and statement given by the victim girl’s sister. It transpired that both the twin girls were brought to Paonta Sahib from the village by one Pankal, a resident of Ronhat village to Sirmaur district. He assured that both the sister will be able to live at Bhalla’s residence as a family member as well as able to continue their studies right from there. Sadly, both the sisters were never sent to school and the worst part is that both were forced to do domestic tasks and constrained to harassment and agony, the Sirmaur police said.

According to the statement given by victim girl, Mr. Bhalla’s Wife returned home at late night and ask her to massage her legs. While doing leg massage, the victim girl slept and angry Mrs. Bhalla kicked the girl very hard in the stomach. After this, the victim girl fell unconscious and  was taken to a hospital in Dehradun and they shifted her to IGMC Shimla on the night of February 20.

The other sister also provided the statement that they both were mistreated psychologically, emotionally, as well as physically tortured and forced to do household works like dusting, sweeping, washing utensils and clothes and in return never given full meals. She also mentioned that

We never get paid for our work nor have permission to talk to our family. When we request Mrs. Bhalla to send us school or home, she starts threatening us by saying that if she would send our father to jail, if they speak even a single work.

Still, the arrested Mr. and Mrs. Bhalla claims that this is just one of the story. Both denying all the charges as well as saying that none of the girls were mistreating and forced to do domestic chores. They also mentioned that, both the girls were treated as family member and were never exposed to sexual abuse or inhume treatment.

After knowing the whole story it is very clear that how illteracy and poverty had ruined the childhood of these two twim sisters. Surely this is another case, where our government’s campaign which reads “Beti Bachao, Beti Badhao” has failed.
